Glossary: SURROUND SOUND

Surround sound or multichannel audio is the name given to the techinque of recording additional channels onto a soundtrack to enable the user to be surrounded with sound. There are a number of different standards available from basic 3 channel (stereo front and one rear speaker) to 22.2 channel systems for use in ultra high definition video.
