The Extron FOX II T DP 4K fibre Optic Transmitter provides long haul extension of DisplayPort video, multi-channel audio, RS-232 control, and IR control signals over fibre optic cabling. Engineered with uncompromising quality and proven performance, it uses Extron all-digital technology to deliver lossless DisplayPort computer and video images up to 4096x2160, including 1080p/60 with Deep Color. This HDCP-compliant transmitter brings new features to the FOX II Series, including support for 4K video, Type 2 dual-mode DisplayPort outputs, and selectable downscaling for the local monitor output. The FOX II T DP 4K also includes many integrator-friendly features such as Key Minder®, EDID Minder®, audio embedding, audio gain and attenuation, along with real-time system monitoring.

The FOX II T DP 4K represents the highest level of performance for the extensive FOX Series of fibre optic products from Extron. It supports resolutions up to 4K to ensure that content is delivered with the highest quality possible over a fibre optic cable. A single transmitter is capable of sending 4K video images up to 4096x2160 at 30 Hz with a 4:4:4 Colour space over one fibre. It also features vertical sync lock, enabling video images up to 4096x2160 at 60 Hz with a 4:4:4 Colour space to be transmitted over two fibres using two transmitters. Each transmitter sends a 2048x2160 signal to a corresponding receiver for the left and right video images. Vertical sync lock ensures proper timing for a seamless 4K/60 signal with the highest quality. Maintaining a 60 Hz frame rate and a 4:4:4 Colour space provides smooth frame transitions in full motion video and ensures the details of high quality computer images, such as CAD drawings, are preserved.

The input loop-through supports Type 2 dual-mode DisplayPort with selectable downscaling for interoperability with HDMI, DVI, and VGA devices. With the proper cable or adapter, it supports 4K DisplayPort and HDMI displays, as well as lower resolution DisplayPort, HDMI, DVI, and VGA displays. The FOX II T DP 4K transmitter can be used with the FOX II R DP 4K receiver in point-to-point applications or in combination with a FOX Series matrix switcher for an enterprise-wide HDCP-compliant distribution system of 4K DisplayPort video, multi-channel audio, RS-232 control, and IR control signals.

To simplify integration with digital sources and displays, the DisplayPort transmitter features two Extron technologies: EDID Minder and Key Minder. EDID Minder automatically manages EDID by maintaining continuous EDID communication between connected devices, ensuring that the source powers up properly and maintains video output for display. For digital video signals with protected content, Key Minder authenticates and maintains continuous HDCP encryption to support quick and reliable switching in professional AV environments, while enabling simultaneous distribution of a single source signal to one or more displays.

In addition to DisplayPort video signals, the FOX II T DP 4K supports multi-channel audio and an audio return channel. Multi-channel audio allows a variety of audio playback options including distribution to surround sound systems. For added flexibility, the audio return channel enables a remote audio source at or near the display to transmit stereo audio back to the transmitter for additional processing or distribution, eliminating the need for an additional transmitter and receiver pair.

The FOX II T DP 4K features bidirectional RS-232 and IR ports for control of AV devices. Sources and displays can be controlled from either the transmitter or receiver end using either RS-232 or IR signals.

The fibre optic transmitter is available in multimode and singlemode models. The FOX II T DP 4K MM supports multimode fibre at 850 nm, which is typically used within buildings or facilities with moderate-range transmission distances up to 2 km (1.25 miles). The FOX II T DP 4K SM supports singlemode at 1310 nm, offering long-range transmission capability over extreme distances of up to 30 km (18.75 miles). It can be used in very large facilities such as airports and stadiums, and for connecting over very long distances between facilities such as university campuses. Because transmission of content is inherently secure and immune to outside interference, fibre applications are particularly favored in government, military, and medical environments. For enhanced security, the extender can be set up to trigger an external control system for immediate notification if a fibre link is lost. It features industry standard LC-type connectivity. The 1U, half rack width metal enclosure is designed for installation in professional AV environments.
